Panalpina wins large five-year contract with oil and gas major for Iraqi project

​Panalpina has gained its largest award with a specific oil and gas major to date. The company was awarded with a long-term contract to manage transportation for a gas project in Iraq. The contract will run over a minimum of five years and involve high air and LCL (less than container load) ocean freight volumes. Work has already begun.

The FPSO Glen Lyon is one of the biggest oil and gas production units ever made. During its tow from South Korea to Norway, up to 160 crew members representing 18 different nationalities worked and lived on board the Glen Lyon. But what is it like to work and live on a vessel that takes five minutes to walk from one end to the other? Panalpina talked to the captain to find out.

Between December 2015 and June 2016, the Glen Lyon traveled 15,600 nautical miles in total, traveling at an average speed of 6.4 knots first from South Korea to Norway and then onwards to its permanent location west of the Shetland Islands. Panalpina assisted BP with the tow of the FPSO Glen Lyon by taking charge of responsibilities such as material management, husbandry and ship agency services.

The FPSO Glen Lyon is a huge Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit used for the production and processing of hydrocarbons and for the storage of oil offshore. Panalpina rolls out new IT platform in Germany

Panalpina continues to upgrade its new operational IT platform and is in the middle of its roll-out in Germany. Ocean Freight is currently the prime focus and will be followed by Air Freight. Germany is already handling the highest number of transactions on the new platform. Panalpina’s new transport management system will secure significant operational benefits.

As the company celebrates 40 years of doing business in Singapore, this is the largest ever warehousing investment outside Europe in the company’s history. Panalpina has reached a new milestone in the roll-out of its single warehouse management system JDA across all of its logistics facilities around the world. The 50th site went live with JDA WMS in France. Shortly before that, JDA WMS was implemented at facilities in the USA and Belgium. The sites in Newtown and Brussels are part of a global distribution network for the healthcare customer IBA.
